An Eventful week...

This past week has been crazy! It seems like not a minute has gone by that I didn't have something to do. Marcus went home today, and things have finally started to slow down a little. Before I get into detail, I have some good news about the JH job fair that took place last weekend.

We didn't really know what to expect from the resort jobs, and kind of went into the job fair blindly...but everything came out great! Based on the pay charts and the work environments, Laura and I decided to apply for jobs as lift operators for the resort. They make more money than all the other jobs, and you get to be outside in the mountains while you work. Right after you choose what position you want to apply for at the fair, they send you off to the office locations to interview. I met with a guy named EJ, and we hit it off right away. Tiffany Hollums (my old youth minister and great friend) wrote me an awesome recommendation letter, and after a few minutes of chatting, EJ offered me a job. The funny thing is that they aren't supposed to offer jobs at the fair, just take notes and do call backs later, but EJ said he really thought I would be a great addition to his team. Working for EJ, I will get to work the upper mountain lifts, and ride the new tram to work every morning before the crowds come in. He also said that we would get to ski down after our shifts, and regularly be on "roam" aka ski breaks throughout the day. Sounds like my kind of job! But yeah, I'm really excited about this job, its going to get me a lot of great benefits and I think I'm really going to enjoy it...and get to ski a lot!

Marcus came to visit on Monday, and he, Laura and I finally got to catch up. Tuesday we gave him a tour of the area, and around town. On Wednesday Marcus, Laura, and I all got up before sunrise and headed to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. Needless to say, it was BEAUTIFUL. We saw so much stuff, and were even lucky enough to see a bull moose, grizzley bear, and a black bear! Sadly, they came and left before I could get pictures of them. Aside from that, we didn't really have enough time to see everything we wanted to in one day, but it was a great trip for all of us. Here are some of the pictures I took, enjoy!

A couple sushi feasts and wilderness adventures later, it was Halloween! Since Halloween is Marcus' favorite holiday, and people here are crazy about dressing up, we decided to do it right! First, we went to a haunted house we heard about in Idaho, called the Haunted Mill. Its inside a historic mill from the early 1900s, and it was by far the scariest and best haunted house I have ever been to in my entire life. If anyone is ever in this area in the fall, look it up!

Earlier in the week, we all got costumes and tickets to this huge Halloween party at the Snowking Ski Resort in downtown Jackson. We carved pumpkins and then got ready for the party! I think its safe to say our costumes were pretty awesome. Laura was a witch, I was a skeleton zombie, and Marcus was a convict. We had a great night of fun, the Snowking party was HUGE and had literally about 2,000 people there! I probably had the most fun I have ever had on Halloween.

Surprisingly, it didn't snow all week, and before we knew it Marcus' was on his way home. Just his luck that I look out the window tonight and it's starting to snow. And the forecast for the week has a couple snowy days in view! The resort opens in less than a month, and its about time for the snow to start coming. We can't wait! The orientation for the resort will be around Thanksgiving, so by then we will know a lot more about how things are going to be this season.

So far I really, really love this place. Everything we have hoped for and wanted has happened, and I couldn't have asked for more. The thing I miss most from home is definitely my family, but it helps to know that they are happy I'm out here chasing my dreams. Thanksgiving is going to be hard being here alone, but I am definitely looking forward to my parents coming to visit for Christmas.

On another note, word on the street is that the new tram cars arrived in town in the past couple of days. Laura and I are going to head out to the resort in the next few days, and try to catch some pictures of the tram for our eager-to-visit friends at home to drool over. Everyone around town just seems to be waiting for what we all know is soon to come and stay for the next 6 months...SNOW.

Hi Chris,
Your new job sounds great! :) I'm really excited for you! Your costume (especially the face paint) totally freaked me and my colleages out at work! :) I really want to come and visit you...especially during the ski season. I really wish that we could've come for Christmas, but I know that you'll have great "only child" time with them :) I love you little brother!

Chris and Laura,
So glad you are having such neat adventures!! Oh, to be young and
eager to explore life to the fullest. I wish I could come there at Christmas but there's this recession going on and there's a wedding planned in June. It's wonderful of you to be so generous with your pictures and recording of all this with us. Love, Nana
